Overview

The Rating Programme at Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) is designed to prepare aspiring seafarers for a professional career in the maritime industry. This program offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge, practical training, and real-world experience, aligning with international standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Rating Programme aims to:

  • Equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform essential duties on board vessels efficiently and safely.
  • Prepare students for operational responsibilities on merchant vessels.
  • Foster a strong foundation in maritime principles, ship operations, and teamwork.
  • Develop competencies required to meet the standards for certification as a Rating, ensuring readiness for various roles on board.

12 months in ALAM + 3 months Industrial Training

  8. Ship Catering Food Raw Material Storage

Ship Catering Supervision – Level 3

  1. Ship Catering Menu Planning
  2. Ship Catering Inventory Control
  3. Ship Catering Equipment Maintenance
  4. Ship Catering Supervision
  5. Ship Catering Food Emergency Respond

Entry Requirements

Minimum Age

Must be at least 18 years old (maximum 40 years old as per SKM requirement).

Health Status

Must hold a valid medical certificate to confirm fitness for shipboard duties (free from defects of vision and colour, speech, hearing and other impediments).

Education

Should have a basic educational background, preferably with foundational literacy and numeracy skills (Pass English and Bahasa Malaysia at PMR Level and completed SPM).

Note

  • All tuition fees are payable in Ringgit Malaysia.
  • Full settlement of fees must be made on or before the registration day/ commencement of a new semester.

For International Students

Tuition fees are payable in Ringgit Malaysia. Any shortfall arising from foreign exchange currency transactions to Ringgit Malaysia and bank charges will be borne by the students/ participants while any surplus will be reflected as excess payment.
