Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM) celebrates its 112th Convocation Ceremony

Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM) recently celebrate its 112th Convocation Ceremony, which saw a total of 294 graduands ready to embark on a rewarding career on board ship. The event was officiated by Y.Bhg. Datuk Nasarudin Md. Idris, Chairman of Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn. Bhd.
The ceremony also marks an important time in the history of ALAM as the Academy celebrated its highest number of female graduands ever produced. A total of 22 female graduands received their Diplomas at this year’s convocation with some receiving the ALAM Rank Holders Award, an award for appointed leaders amongst the graduating batch.
The ceremony was made even more memorable as this was the first time that an ALAM convocation ceremony was graced by members of the MISC Board of Directors. Among the esteemed attendees were Ybhg. Dato Haji. Ab. Halim Bin Mohyiddin, Chairman of the MISC Board of Directors, boardmember Y. Bhg Dato’ K. Sekhar a/l S. Krishnan and Mr Yee Yang Chien, President/CEO of MISC Bhd.
The ceremony also saw more than eighty of ALAM’s clients and sponsors from the across the region came and travelled to witness and join in this glorious occasion with their respective sponsored students.
A new addition to the ceremony was the procession of ALAM’s first batch of cadets. 16 of ALAM’s first batch of cadets showed their support by attending the convocation ceremony. A montage of pictures from their years in ALAM was also displayed during the ceremony.
“This convocation ceremony is what we look forward to every year, it is not only a celebration of our graduates’ successes, but also the recognition of the hard work of our staff and the support which we have received from sponsors of the graduates,” said Mr David Fredrick, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn. Bhd.
“We are truly honoured by the unwavering support which we have received from our sponsors and the maritime fraternity as a whole, and it is our sincere hope that they will continue investing in the professional developmental growth of seafaring personnel, as they are the future of the industry,” said David.
The convocation, which was conducted at the Polaris Hall in ALAM, also saw graduands from various countries such as Malaysia, India, China, Bangladesh, Brunei and the Philippines graduating with pride.
